Department of English: A Legacy of Excellence:
The Department of English at our college has been a cornerstone of academic excellence and cultural enrichment since its inception. Established in 1968 for undergraduate studies and later expanding to postgraduate education in 1972, it stands as one of the pioneering departments of the institution. Over the decades, it has played a pivotal role in the overall development and reputation of the college.
The department takes pride in its distinguished alumni and faculty members who have made significant contributions in both academic and social spheres. One of the most notable personalities associated with the department is Mr. V. B. Saynakar, a former Principal who led the college for over 15 years. His visionary leadership and dedication helped shape the institution into a center of learning and innovation.
Another esteemed faculty member, Miss Shaila Saynakar, was a celebrated poetess in Marathi literature, known for her lyrical expression and literary sensibility. Prof. Devdatta Patil, a prolific Marathi novelist, enriched the literary landscape with more than 40 novels, several of which have been adapted into films, amplifying his cultural impact. Prof. N. S. Kshirsagar, an accomplished poet, played an instrumental role in enhancing the reputation of the college through his creative and academic contributions. Prof. V. Y. Ghabak, one of the founding members of the department, was widely respected for his active involvement in social movements and commitment to social justice.
The department boasts a legacy of students who have gone on to serve society in various sectors including education, administration, law, media, and public service. Their success stories are a testament to the department’s commitment to holistic development and academic rigor.
The current faculty continues to uphold this legacy of excellence:
• Dr. Pramod A. Ganganmale, an alumnus of the department and currently the Head, holds a Ph.D. and has successfully completed several research projects funded by prestigious bodies like UGC and AICTE. He is actively engaged in social movements, reflecting the department’s tradition of community engagement.
• Dr. B. A. Sawant holds a Ph.D. and a PGDTE from the University of Hyderabad, along with an LLM from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Apart from his academic pursuits, he serves as the Associate NCC Officer (ANO) of the college, nurturing discipline and leadership among students.
• Mr. N. M. Shinde, a SET-qualified faculty member, is known for his approachable and student-centric attitude. He plays a vital role in mentoring students, encouraging their participation in extracurricular activities, and supporting their personal and academic growth.
• Dr. R. V. Dandge, who has qualified NET and earned a Ph.D., is also actively involved in social initiatives. His work reflects a deep commitment to integrating academic knowledge with societal transformation.
