About Department :
The pioneer Prof. D. G. Gaikwad initially from Geography and in 1976 he started Department of Sociology and become first head of the department. Again Prof. V. G. Panaskar Joined after that and nourished department academically well. Mr. P.S.Salunkhe the 1982 student of this department completed his Post-Graduation from Shivaji University,Kolhapur and worked as Research Assistant up to 1987 there . Then he joined in 1987 as a lecturer & after completion of Prof. V. G. Panaskar’s tenure  Mr. P. S. Salunkhe take the charge as the Head Department  of Sociology. He was retired on 2021. Right now there were three C.H.B. Lecturer joined namely 1. Mr. Raviraj Shamrao Suryagandha  2. Mr. Sagar Dagadu Mohite 3. Abhijeet Bhimrao Chavan as per University rules.

    To develop students through value based quality education with commitment to their ethical and multi-dimensional development which will contribute toward their educational social and Economical wellbeing.

Mission :
    To inculcate the goals and values stated in the constitution of India among the students for upholding values such as democracy, equality, social justice and inclusiveness required for just and human society through sociological knowledge.

Objectives :
1. To study the discipline of sociology and sociological perspectives. 
2. To create awareness of social research among the students.
3. To fulfill social needs of community through sociological knowledge.
4. To create social awareness among students about social problems like gender issue, terrorism, child labor, dowry  and female feticide.
5. To enable students to apply their knowledge for career as well as fulfill social responsibilities.
